The work itself
You can tell a good install by looking at it.
Straight conduit. A pad that is level and sized correctly. A transfer switch mounted where a technician can actually work on it. Labels that still make sense in ten years.
None of that is decoration. Conduit that is properly supported does not chafe. A level pad keeps oil readings honest and the engine mounted the way the manufacturer intended. Clean terminations are the difference between a five-minute diagnosis and an afternoon of tracing wire in the dark.

We kill the utility feed and watch the whole sequence run. Then we show you the controller, the exercise schedule and what a warning light means.

The most common reason a standby unit fails to start is its battery. The second is fuel. Both are caught on a scheduled visit and neither is caught by hoping.

Acreage & rural property
On a well and septic, an outage is a different problem.
In town, losing power for six hours is an inconvenience. On twenty acres outside Millsap it means no water at the tap, no water for livestock, a septic lift pump that stops moving, a gate that has to be cranked by hand, and a shop full of equipment sitting idle.
Rural circuits also tend to be the last ones restored. Longer feeder runs, fewer customers per mile, more line exposed to trees and wind — the crews work the biggest outages first, and that is rarely the county road.
That changes the design. Well pumps draw heavily at startup, propane is often the only fuel available, the tank has to be sized for real runtime rather than a brochure figure, and a shop or barn may need its own subpanel brought into the backup scheme.

What size standby generator does a Texas home need?
It depends far less on square footage than on which loads have to run at the same time. Two air-conditioning compressors, a submersible well pump and a septic lift pump can dominate the calculation on an acreage property, because each of them draws several times its running load at the instant it starts. We do a load calculation on site, and where the numbers are close we look at load management before we look at a bigger machine.
Do you service generators you did not install?
Yes. We repair and maintain Generac, Kohler/Rehlko, Briggs & Stratton, Cummins, Champion and Honeywell standby systems regardless of who installed them. If you have the model and serial number from the data plate inside the enclosure, that speeds things up considerably.
Will a whole-home generator run my air conditioning?
A correctly sized standby system will, and that is usually the whole reason people in this part of Texas buy one. The question is how many compressors start at once and whether a soft-start device or load management lets a smaller generator carry them. That is part of the sizing conversation, not an afterthought.
Natural gas or propane?
If you have a natural gas line with adequate pressure and volume, it is usually the simpler answer — no tank, and the supply keeps coming as long as the line holds pressure. On rural properties without gas service, propane works well, but the tank has to be sized for the runtime you actually want. We size the fuel system as part of the design rather than leaving it to the plumber.
How long does a generator installation take?
The on-site work is a matter of days rather than weeks for a typical residential system, but the schedule depends on permitting, utility coordination and equipment availability, which vary by jurisdiction and by season. We give you a realistic timeline with the proposal instead of a number we cannot control.
Do you offer financing?
Financing is available through several independent lenders, subject to credit approval. Armored Power Systems is not a lender and does not make credit decisions — rates and terms come from the lender and vary by applicant and project.
